So in case you couldn't tell from the semi-straight forward title of my blog, it's about health and medical advancements. More specifically, medical advancements in the United States and other modern and powerful countries, but also in third world countries that are far less advanced and have very few resources. I've been interested in all aspects of the medical field since I was very young, mostly because my mom is a part of it. She's a nurse anesthetist at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, so if any of you ever end up there for a surgery, you might meet my mom! But anyways, she used to always tell me stories about the operations she did, and the people she worked with, and the various techniques they use to do certain operations and I just fell in love. As I've gotten older, I've begun to think about how the world of medical advancement and achievement is so much bigger than just our local hospitals, our home state of Massachusetts, and even the United States. There are some places in the world that have made much more progress than us, however there are also some that have made far less. The problem we face now is, how do the powerful countries share their advancements with those countries that are struggling, and how can they combine their resources and knowledge to continue to progress in the right direction? It is a question that we may think doesn't affect us, but consider this; what if one day you find yourself in another country and something happens? Say an accident, a sudden stint of illness, a chronic disease acting up. What if you are in a foreign country and contract an exotic disease that they don't have the resources to treat and you don't have time to go somewhere that does? Shouldn't you be able to receive the best and most advanced care, no matter where you are in the world? That is why we need to pay more attention, and care about this topic.
